WCC Meeting Notes November 25, 2006
Hi Everyone,
It was nice to see you again this past Saturday (good timing, too, before Winter set in!) I would like to thank each of you for your continued energy and vision for bringing Wisdom Councils to Victoria. It truly does feel like we're embarking on a new adventure in exploring "deep" or genuine democracy (perhaps beyond where others have ventured before!).
I'd appreciate any suggestions about keeping our group spirit alive -- especially between meetings. I think communication is key, of course, so I would urge you to please join the online group I've set up at
http://groups.google.ca/group/wise-dem-vic?lnk=oa&hl=en. Once we've all signed up, each of us can send notes to the entire group without having to keep track of individual emails. (You will need to set up a google account first, if you don't already have one, but it's a simple step.) It also becomes easier to share files, etc.
Here are my notes from our past meeting. Please let me know if you have anything to add.
Look forward to seeing everyone on December 9th at 10 am, same location, Fraser 142.
keep warm!
George
Key decisions:
1) Geographic area - decision deferred. Each of us to think about the appropriate geographic area or population that we would like to have involved in the first WC process (keeping in mind how we'd like the entire series of 3 WC's to unfold; WC #1, #2, and #3. i.e., progressive approach; smaller to larger population?). The options presented during the meeting included a school or combination of schools, Greater Victoria, or some component of Greater Victoria; e.g., Fernwood community.
2) School "fact-finding" mission --
Three people (Brigitte, Dan, and Diane) agreed to make contact with school system colleagues to give a brief presentation on the wisdom council process and to report back to the group of conveners on Dec 9th. The intent is to guage the potential and viability for doing a WC in a school setting (one school or a combination of schools). It is important to convey the essential ingredients of a WC process; ie, a) random selection and b) issues arise from wisdom council members, not conveners. The three people should coordinate with Caspar and/or George about attending the presentation to help with explaining the WC process.
3) Key Roles and names of people who stepped forward
