Wise Democracy Victoria - WC Conveners Meeting
1. Check-in - round table personal updates
2. Next WC in Fernwood?

7. Spaces to Places community workshop and presentation (George)
8. Business directory (Dan)
- a list of all businesses in Fernwood, if compiled as a directory could serve as a WC PR and fundraiser vehicle. Perhaps a project for communication students (Camosun, RRU, etc. Draw upon Arifin’s graphic design skills.
9. What to do after next WC (tuck it in the back of our minds for future discussion
- community dialogues, regular cafes, use Dynamic Facilitation to tackle issues and ensure shared air time
- we are the leading edge…the spark of democracy - come in with open questions
- Creative Insight Councils to address strong polarization (facilitate healing). Use the fishbowl/observer format for larger groups

11. Overall process
a. Run a a combo of WCs and Conversation Cafes…Cafes to warm up the neighbourhood for a WC, or as a follow-up to a WC to further the conversation.
b. Articles in comm.. newsletters - purpose - to build awareness, interest, trust, willingness to respond…create fertile ground for a WC selection process. Plan the timing of articles for maximum impact, e.g. Jan article, Feb WC, Feb article
c. Random selection considerations (Doug Philip, Wendy)
a. Set up a meeting schedule - frequency of ½ weeks for now, 1/w when WC gets closer, or use work groups/committees/teams
b. Articles (Philip - distribution of the letter)
c. Decision process

- Invitations to community groups vs phonebook - how to include those who are not in the phone book
- How to invite people: VillageVibe (4000 homes) - January article by George & Caspar
- FernwoodNews - submit an article
- What are the privacy issues of using people’s info?
- How to randomize invitation via VillageVibe - inserted letter and coupon, pick people off the street (trust the energy) invite all and draw from those who show up….WC could be a fishbowl format with observers

- Email discussion before and after (better to use Google groups for continuity)
- How will decisions hold? If more than half decide…the decision should stand…not overturned by different people next week
- Use gradient preferencing system rather than dualistic vote (-2, -1, 0 +1 +2)
- Run dialogues (grounded conversation), e.g. philosophers café, which is a more open process, or Dynamic Facilitation which is for tackling issues in a creative way…or a conversation corner in a café. The following are interested: Danielle, Dan, Leona, Doug (Doug & Dan will talk to Ian), George is interested but busy
- Run Creative insight council(s) Jan will initiate an email discussion, Sonya and Philip are interested,
- Remember…the purpose of a WC is to foster dialogue
